FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tyler Allen’s 40-yard free kick goal in the 65th minute proved to be the game-winner for the University of Arkansas women’s soccer team in Thursday’s exhibition contest against Creighton University, as the Razorbacks scored the 2-1 victory in front a packed house at Razorback Soccer Field.
After a Creighton foul, Allen stepped up for a Razorback free kick and delivered a perfectly struck ball 40-yards down field that landed in left-hand side of the goal to break a 1-1 deadlock. Allen’s goal helped Arkansas pick up a victory in a contest they statistically dominated. The Razorbacks outshot the Bluejays 21-8, including an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal, and won the corner kick battle 4-1.
“In an exhibition match you’re just looking to knock off the rust off and get out and play someone else,” said head coach Colby Hale. “I think we were able to get a picture of who we are and where we’re going and what we need to work on. I thought we did some good things and it’s obviously always good to win, we were able to get some people some experience while also competing to win.”
Arkansas scored its first goal of the game off a set piece, as Katie Moore stepped up to take a free kick in the 22nd minute that found a crowd in front of the goal. Lindsey Mayo corralled the pass and beat the keeper to put the Razorbacks in front 1-0.
Creighton would score the equalizer less than 10 minutes before the intermission. Emily Roll send a cross into the box and found Kirstyn Corder, who flicked in a header at the 37:10 mark to tie the contest at 1-1.
Tonight’s match was the lone exhibition for the Razorbacks, who will now prepare for the 2014 season opener against Utah State next Friday, Aug. 22 at Razorback Soccer Field. The contest, which is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m., will be shown live on the SEC Network+.
