Allison Ulrey pick up SEC awards

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorbacks Alyssa Allison and Dorian Ulrey, members of the cross country teams, have earned Southeastern Conference weekly awards, it was announced Tuesday.

Allison, a freshman from Herculaneum, Mo., has been named the SEC Women’s Freshman Runner of the Week. In her first collegiate 6,000-meter race, she finished 31st at the 21st annual Chile Pepper Festival, in Fayetteville, on Saturday. She was Arkansas’ fifth scorer and has finished in Arkansas’ scoring five in all four meets this season.

Allison crossed the finish line in a time of 21:48.78, a personal best. Her time ranks 20th in the SEC and first among SEC freshmen. Arkansas finished third in the team race at the Chile Pepper Festival with 87 points. The Hogs finished three runners in the top 20 and all five scorers in the top 27.

Ulrey, a junior from Port Byron, Ill., has been named the SEC Men’s Runner of the Week. Ulrey made his 2009 cross country debut a memorable one with a fourth-place finish at the 21st annual Chile Pepper Festival, in Fayetteville, on Saturday.

In his first collegiate cross country race since the 2007 season and his first in an Arkansas uniform, Ulrey crossed the finish line in fourth place with a 10,000-meter time of 29:37.50. His 10K time is a personal best by more than two minutes (31:54.79) and was just seven seconds off the winning time.

He was the top Arkansas, SEC and South Central Region finisher. Fourth place is the highest he has finished in his career in a 10K cross country race. Arkansas finished third in the team race with 89 points. Ulrey paced two Arkansas runners to top 20 finishes and all five scorers in the top 26.
