FAYETTEVILLE— Arkansas’ softball team opens the 2010 fall season with the Alumni match at Bogle Park, Saturday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m.
Second year head coach Mike Larabee and the 2010-11 Razorbacks will take on softball alumni dating back to the inaugural team of 1997. Joining the alumni team are such former players as Dana Gulick of the first Razorback team and all-SEC selection Jessica Bachkora.
“It’s going to be fun to see the first group of seniors that I coached come back,” head coach Mike Larabee said. “The seniors made my transition very easy.”
The current Razorbacks welcome nine newcomers to the roster, including one transfer. Sophomore Linnea Ketcher comes on as a transfer from Weber State to add depth to the roster and freshman Sierra Bronkey of Edmond, Okla., who owned a hitting average of .433 as a senior at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
Key returners for UA include seniors Becca Carden and Layne McGuirt. Carden who made 49 appearances as a junior and had 19 RBI on the season. McGuirt was second in rotation for the Hogs behind standout pitcher Miranda Dixon. McGuirt worked 124.0 innings and held an ERA of 3.56.
“It’s good to get the alumni excited about playing and get them connected with Razorback softball,” Larabee said. “We plan to make it an annual thing.”
Joining Gulick and Bachkora on the alumni roster are UA record holders Tiffany Woolley, Dayna Huckabee and Rachel LeMaster. Woolley holds the school record for games started in a season with 75 in 1999 while Huckabee holds the record for most triples and LeMaster earned the most stolen bases in her career from 2004-07.
