Take Your Base
The Razorbacks have used a sharp eye at the plate this season as the Hogs lead the SEC in drawing walks. Arkansas players have walked 95 times in 14 games, 28 times more than the next closest league team (Florida with 67). Arkansas has more walks than Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt combined in the early going of 2004. Matt Fry, Kern Watts, Jake Dugger and Devin Day each rank among the league leaders in walks in the SEC.
Errors Doom Razorbacks
Miscues cost the Razorbacks in a two-run loss to No. 14 Texas A&M. In the third meeting between the teams at the Aggie Classic, Arkansas committed four errors leading to seven unearned runs including three in the ninth inning when A&M posted five runs in rallying from a 7-4 deficit. For the tournament, Arkansas committed 13 errors which led to 11 unearned runs.
The Razorbacks wasted plenty of scoring chances at the Dominos Pizza Aggie Classic. Arkansas left 60 runners on base in the six-game tournament including a season-high 18 in a 5-2 win over New Mexico. That was just one short of the team record of 19 set against Tennessee in 2002. In Arkansas’ three losses in the tournament, the Hogs left 21 runners left on base and lost all three games by two runs each.
