FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman third baseman Cody Clark’s grand slam keyed an eight-run seventh inning that sealed Arkansas’ 25-6 win over Missouri Southern in Sunday’s season opener for both teams at Baum Stadium.
A UA opening-day record crowd of 2,610 saw the Razorbacks (1-0) earn 32nd-year head coach Norm DeBriyn his 1,100th career coaching victory and extend their winning streak against the Lions (0-1) to 35.
Playing in his first collegiate game, Clark – the son of 25th-year UA assistant coach Doug Clark – collected three hits and five RBI to lead the Razorbacks to their seventh-consecutive season-opening victory.
Razorback starter Wes McCrotty (1-0) earned the victory as the first of six Arkansas pitchers. MSSC starter Nate Ulepich (0-1) gave up six runs on five hits over three innings and was charged with the loss.
