FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Despite winning the doubles point, No. 18 Arkansas fell 4-2 to No. 24 South Carolina on Sunday at George M. Billingsley Tennis Center.

“Congrats to South Carolina,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “This was a very typical grinding Southeastern Conference Sunday match, and I thought we were great in how we turned around from Friday’s amazing performance. The growth in our team these past few weeks has been fantastic and we have some great opportunities in front of us.”

The Razorbacks (14-5, 4-3 SEC) gained the early edge, claiming the doubles point for the 15th time this season. Arkansas struck first with a 6-2 win from freshman Natsuho Arakawa and junior Léolia Jeanjean at the No. 3 position. The Razorbacks’ No. 38-ranked pair of senior co-captain Shannon Hudson and freshman Giulia Pairone followed with the clincher, a 6-4 victory at the top spot.

South Carolina (13-5, 4-3 SEC) took a 2-1 lead with consecutive wins at the No. 6 and No. 2 singles spots.

Arkansas junior Mia Jurasic leveled the match, defeating South Carolina’s Silvia Chinellato 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 to cap a 2-0 weekend in singles action. Jurasic, who outlasted No. 22 Anna Danilina of top-ranked Florida on Friday night, improved to 11-4 this spring and extended her win streak to five matches.

With the team score tied 2-2, the Gamecocks picked up wins No. 5 and No. 1 to claim the 4-2 overall match victory.
