Arkansas Falls To Rebels In Final Road Match

OXFORD, Miss. – In its final road bout of the 2017 spring campaign, the Arkansas men’s tennis team fell to the Ole Miss Rebels 4-3 at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

Arkansas (13-11, 4-6 SEC) got behind early 1-0, losing at No. 2 and 3 to drop the doubles point. No. 13 Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar were up 5-3 over No. 26 Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton before doubles play was suspended at the clinch.

No. 9 Redlicki continued to struggle, falling 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets to No. 33 Gustav Hansson to give Ole Miss (11-8, 4-6 SEC) a 2-0 lead. The Rebels quickly ran it to a 3-0 lead after Juan Marino fell 7-6, 6-2 at No. 6, despite holding a 5-0 lead in the first set.

No. 32 Salazar was able to knock off Ricardo Jorge 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at No. 2 to give Arkansas its first win of the afternoon. The senior improved to 16-4 this spring in singles play, including a 7-2 mark against SEC opponents.

Johan den Toom has now won four straight decisions in singles play after taking out Zvonimir Babic 6-1, 5-6, 6-3 to pull the Razorbacks within one, down 3-2.

Oscar Mesquida defeated Tim Sandkaulen 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot to bring the match to a 3-3 tie.

The match came down to court four. Adam Sanjurjo found himself in a battle against Fabian Fallert. Down one set, the two went to 6-6 in set two, where Fallert won 7-5 in a tiebreaker to take the court and win the match.

Arkansas will return home to conclude the regular season next week, facing the No. 23 Kentucky Wildcats on Friday, April 14 at 6 p.m. and the Vanderbilt Commodores for Senior Day on Sunday, April 16 at 1 p.m.
