ARDMORE, Okla. – In the final round of the Perry Maxwell Intercollegiate the No. 23 Razorbacks turned in a eight-over-par 288 to come away with a tournament score of 867 (+27) and a 12th place showing. In the first and second rounds they put up 287 (+7) and 292 (+12), respectively. Host school Oklahoma State maintained their lead and captured the tournament team title with a seven-under-par 833. Colorado’s Kane Webber was also able to hold his top spot on the leader board after he won in a playoff with a five-under-par 205.
“We just didn’t play well this weekend,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “No one really got it going out there today. The good thing is we have regionals to look forward to and that’s a good opportunity ahead of us. We need to move on from this and learn from our mistakes.”
Senior Andrew Dahl was the Hogs’ top finisher after he tied for 21st with a three-over-par 213 on Dornick Hills Country Club’s par 70, 6,442-yard course. Dahl shot first and second rounds of 70 and a third round of 73. Senior Seth Murphy moved up to tie for 36th after he fired a 71 in the final round to go with his 71 and 75 from the first two rounds. His play gave him a seven-over-par 217.
Senior Chad Faucett turned in first and final rounds of 74. His best showing came in the second round with a 71. His performance tied him for 46th with a nine-over-par 219. Arkansas’ two freshmen rounded out the five-man lineup. Matt Bortis posted an 11-over-par 221 to tie for 56th. After two rounds of 73, he turned in a 75 in the final round. Beau Glover was next with a 12-over-par 222. That put him in a tie for 62nd. Glover carded first and third rounds of 73, but his second round score of 76 was too much to overcome.
Arkansas will now turn its attention to the post season as the Hogs travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for the NCAA Central Regional Championships on May 20-22. The Razorbacks must finish in the top 10 of the 27-team field on the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in order to advance to the NCAA Championships. The national tournament is scheduled for Jun 1-4 at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
