Arkansas Finishes Fourth at Gary Koch Intercol

TAMPA, Fla. – The Razorback golf team concluded the Gary Koch Intercollegiate in fourth place with a one-under-par 863 after starting the day in the runner-up position. No. 23 Arkansas posted a score of 296 in the final round to go with their first and second round scores of 282 and 285, respectively.
“We never got much going through the final round,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “Conditions were more windy today and they moved the tees back slightly. The bottom line is we made too many mistakes on the greens.”
At the end of the day UA found itself in the company of some of the nations’ top teams. Seventh-ranked Georgia Tech held onto its lead and took the tournament title with a score of 842 and 22 under par. Top-ranked Florida came in second (857), and No. 6 TCU was third (860). Florida’s Matt Every won the individual trophy with an 11-under-par 205.
“This tournament was a wonderful experience and we got to play two of the best teams in the nation: Georgia Tech and Florida,” Ketcham said. “I’m disappointed we couldn’t hold on to second place, but this is definitely going to help us in the long run. We learned that if we eliminate all the small mistakes we can play with the best teams in the country. I like where we’re at, but we need to get better and we will.”
Arkansas senior Seth Murphy stayed solid to tie for sixth place after he shot a 73 in the third round to give him a total score of 211 (-5) after going 71 and 67 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Murphy’s performance marked his second top-10 finish in as many tournaments. On October 7, the Athens, Texas native tied for third at the Club Glove Intercollegiate in Somis, Calif.
“Seth continues to play well,” Ketcham said. “I’m really proud of his achievements this season. The two true freshmen played well and this gives them great experience. Andrew Dahl needs to get back to where he should be, but he’s a fighter and he’ll get there before the season is over.”
Freshman Beau Glover posted his first top 25 finish as a Razorback when he tied for 21st with a two-over-par 218. Glover fired a 76 in the third round after shooting a 70 in the first and 72 in the second round.
Senior Andrew Dahl, sophomore Paul Bradshaw and freshman Matt Bortis all tied with each other for 32nd place. The trio registered a final score of 221 and five-over-par. After carding first and second round scores of 68 and 73, respectively, Dahl put up 80 in the final round.
Bradshaw shot season-low 73’s in the second and third rounds and 75 in the first. Bortis also duplicated his second and third round scores with 74, and shot a 75 in the first. The Gary Koch Intercollegiate was his first tournament to compete in as a Razorback.
Next week the Razorbacks will wrap up their fall campaign when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate on October 26-28.
