Arkansas Headed To Baton Rouge NCAA Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 31st-ranked Arkansas men’s golf team earned its 10th straight NCAA Regional bid under head coach Brad McMakin on Thursday morning, as all six regions were unveiled live on Golf Channel. The Razorbacks were selected to the Baton Rouge Regional at the University Course as the No. 6 seed with teams playing May 15-17.

The top five teams from all six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championships held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. The low individual from each region that is not on one of the five advancing teams will also earn a berth in the NCAA Championships.

The Baton Rouge Regional features eight of the top 50 teams in the country, including No. 6 LSU and defending National Champion and 7th-ranked Oregon. The Razorbacks played in the Tiger Invitational at the University Course last month, finishing T-2nd as LSU took home the team title.

During McMakin’s 11-year stint at the helm of the program, Arkansas has made 10 NCAA Regionals and advanced to the NCAA Championship five times in the last eight years, including a runner-up finish in 2009. During the last nine years, the Razorbacks have never gone back-to-back seasons without advancing to the NCAA Championship.

Arkansas enters the NCAA Regional coming off its second-best round in program history at the 2017 SEC Championship. The Razorbacks came out firing with 19 birdies to record a 12-under 268 and post the third-best score in the 53-year history of the league championship.

After losing three seniors last year, McMakin reloaded in a hurry and has the top freshman scoring average in the country at 73.19. The Razorbacks are one of three teams in the nation with four freshmen in the starting lineup throughout the year, combining to record 73 percent of the rounds played.
