Arkansas Holds Steady At No. 2

NEW ORLEANS – Coming off a solid road outing in Nashville, the Arkansas women’s track and field team remains among the top five best programs in the country in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, announced this afternoon.

The national team rankings are compiled by mathematical formula based on national descending order lists. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points. Preseason rankings will include marks from 2016, and the National Team Computer Rankings will continue to do so through the third regular season edition.

This past weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational, Daina Harper and Tori Weeks set facility records in the 400-meter dash and pole vault, respectively, with Weeks setting a new NCAA lead. In addition to her success in the 400, Harper also captured the 200 title and assisted the 1,600 relay to a season’s best performance of 3 minutes, 36.72 seconds. Harper and Weeks are two of eight nationally-ranked Razorbacks.

In addition to the team’s two Vanderbilt facility record-holders, Arkansas holds tight to its national spotlight courtesy of Taliyah Brooks in the long jump, Therese Haiss and Nikki Hiltz in the mile, Taylor Werner in the 3,000 and its 1,600 and DMR relay squads.

Arkansas heads into this weekend’s Razorback Invitational as the highest-ranked Southeastern Conference program. The Hogs are joined in the top eight by No. 3 Georgia, No. 5 Florida and No. 7 LSU, all of whom will be in attendance at the meet.
