Arkansas Hosts Tulsa for Region V Tennis Champ
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a fall of individual tournaments, Arkansas’ men’s tennis team faces Tulsa in a rare fall dual match for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Region V championship Saturday, Nov. 1, at noon in the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.
The Red-White basketball game tips off at 2 p.m., but parking for the tennis match will be available in the Dills lot. Free pizza and soft drinks will be provided for anyone attending the match.
The winner of the match qualifies for a position in the ITA National Indoors on Feb. 5 2004, which represents the top 16 teams in the nation. Sixteen teams play in the ITA National Indoors, eight qualify from winning their prospective regions and eight more receive automatic births according to the team’s national ranking.
“This represents a rare occasion for our team,” head coach Robert Cox said. “Arkansas plays Tulsa, which over the last few years has definitely become a good rivalry. The last few matches have been extremely close. I feel Tulsa may have the advantage in this match. That is why it is real important to have a loud and noisy home crowd on Saturday.”
Arkansas won the Region V title last year, beating Tulsa, 4-3, in Tulsa to advance to the ITA National Indoors.
The Razorbacks are led by senior Nathan Price with a record of 13-3 and Adrians Zguns (14-2), who is ranked No. 71 in the latest ITA national rankings.
