BATON ROUGE, La. – The 17th-ranked Razorback golf team ended the first day of play in second place with a score of 570 (-6) at LSU’s Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate. Arkansas was in front of the 15-team field after the first round when the Hogs shot a 282 on the 72-par, 7,053-yard golf course, but in the second round they turned in a 288. Their two round total put them only two shots behind the leader, LSU, who posted an eight-under-par 568.
Senior Seth Murphy is once again leading the Razorback team. Murphy is tied for second with a five-under-par 139. Murphy carded first and second rounds of 71 and 68, respectively, and is three strokes off the leader, Michael Young of North Florida.
Freshman Matt Bortis fired a season-best 69 in the first round and then put up a 73 in the second. His total score of 142 (-2) has the Springfield, Mo., native in a tie for sixth.
Senior Chad Faucett registered an even 144 at the end of 36 holes. In his first tournament since September at the Topy Cup in Japan, Faucett shot a season-best 71 in the first round and a 73 in the second round to tie for the 18th spot.
Freshman Beau Glover is close behind with a one-over-par 145 and is tied for 23rd. Glover had first and second round scores of 71 and 74, respectively.
Senior All-American Andrew Dahl rounded out the team and is tied for 32nd with a three-over-par 147. Dahl put up a 72 in the first round and a 75 in the second.
The final round of play is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. The Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate will conclude Arkansas’ fall campaign. The Razorbacks will not compete again until February 10, when they travel to Kona, Hawaii for the Taylor-Made Big Island Classic.
