Arkansas Joins Loaded Field In Mexico
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Coming off its second tournament victory in the last four events, the No. 26 Arkansas men’s golf team returns to action Sunday at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
In what has quickly become one of the toughest fields in all of college golf, the 2017 edition of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate features 10 of top 30 teams in the country, including a trio of programs inside the top 10. The three-day event runs from Feb. 26-28 at the par 71, 6,928-yard Querencia Golf Club. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com or via the Golfstat Live app.
Showing up in Mexico as one of the hottest teams in the nation, the Razorbacks are coming off a tournament title at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, knocking off seven nationally ranked teams and clearing the field by seven strokes, including defeating 2nd-ranked Florida on its home course.
“We’ve got a young team, but they’ve played really well and I can see the confidence getting stronger every week,” said Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin. “We’ll go up against the best teams in the country in Cabo so it will be a great test for these guys.”
The Razorbacks started four freshmen and one sophomore last week with junior Alvaro Ortiz out of the lineup due to illness. He returns to action this week in his home country of Mexico with a 70.5 stroke average, six top-20 finishes, three top-5 finishes and a runner-up showing at Pebble Beach to open the year.
Arkansas is playing in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate for the third straight season, with its best finish coming in 2014 at T-7th in the field of 14 teams.
