Arkansas Kicks Off Spring Season Saturday At Home

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas soccer team will begin its 2018 spring exhibition schedule tomorrow when it plays the first of two home matches this month starting with Southeastern Conference foe, Mississippi State at noon at Razorback Field.

For fans wanting to attend the match, please take note of the Razorback Athletics Clear Bag Policy on ArkansasRazorbacks.com.

Saturday’s exhibition is the first of four spring matches for the Razorbacks with two coming against SEC opponents (Mississippi State, Ole Miss), and one against a team from the Big 12 (Kansas State). The Razorbacks will also play one match against the Tulsa Soccer Club U15 Boys Team at the end of March.

Arkansas is coming off an 11-win season last fall, which included a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in five years. Arkansas also reached its second-straight SEC Tournament final, winning three matches in five days to become the lowest-seeded team ever to reach the tournament’s final match.

Arkansas and Mississippi State last faced off as part of both team’s 2017 conference opener with the Razorbacks getting the 1-0 win. Freshman Parker Goins scored the lone goal in the 88th minute to prevent overtime. Goins finished the year as Arkansas’ leading scorer with nine goals and 25 points.

The Razorbacks return nearly all of their offensive production from a year ago. Along with Goins, sophomore-to-be Taylor Malham is back after a six goal, 14 point first season. Malham recently was invited to the US Women’s National U19 camp in Florida last month.

Much of the backline that produced a school-record tying 10 shutouts returns as well, including Haley VanFossen, Reece Christopherson, and Tori Cannata.

Kick-off Saturday against Mississippi State is scheduled for Noon at Razorback Field and will be free admission.
