Arkansas Ranks Ninth in Initial Sears Director

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Led by the Razorbacks’ third-place finish at the 2001 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Greenville, S.C., the University of Arkansas is ninth in the initial listing of the 2001-02 Division I-A Sears Directors’ Cup standings.
Arkansas has earned a combined 115 points including 80 points for men’s cross country and 35 points for women’s cross country. The standings released include points awarded in men’s and women’s cross country as well as field hockey.
The Hogs finished third at the national cross country meet under coach John McDonnell. Lance Harter led the Lady Razorbacks to a 17th place finish at the NCAA meet on Nov. 19.
Colorado is atop the first set of standings with 162 points while second-place Stanford is second with 161 points. Michigan, BYU and North Carolina State round out the top five institutions.
Arkansas leads all Southeastern Conference schools in points easily outdistancing Alabama (45th) and Tennessee (47th) among league institutions.
Points in the Sears Directors’ Cup race are awarded based on an institution’s finish in up to 20 sports – 10 for men and 10 for women. Standings will be released periodically throughout the school year with final results to be released in June.
