Arkansas Sweeps Foes At Cowboy Duals

STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 11 Arkansas women’s cross country team opened the season with an outstanding effort, sweeping head-to-head competition against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Wichita State at the Cowboy Duals in Stillwater on Thursday morning.

The Razorbacks posted three perfect scores in their races versus Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Wichita State as Arkansas’ top five, led by freshman Carina Viljoen, completed the course 1-2-3-4-5 in each of those matchups.

Viljoen was the top overall performer of the day, clocking a 3,000-meter time of 10 minutes, 35.50 seconds in her debut as a Razorback. She was joined by three additional underclassmen in the Razorbacks’ top five including Rachel Nichwitz (second), Micah Huckabee (fourth) and Madeleine Reed (fifth).

Returning All-SEC and All-Region performer Kelsey Schrader was also among Arkansas’ best placing third within the team and seventh overall.

All 13 Razorback entries finished inside the top 40 with their seven best runners among the top 20.

Arkansas will head back on the road in two weeks for competitions in Riverside, California, (Riverside Invitational) and Joplin, Missouri (Missouri Southern Stampede).
