Arkansas to Run in Chile Pepper Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas will look to win its eleventh-consecutive cross country meet Saturday at the 1999 Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Nationally-ranked No. 1, the Razorbacks will run a number of runners in the annual event. They will be spearheaded by two-time Southeastern Conference Male Athlete of the Week Michael Power. Power has a first-and second-place finish in the two meets he has run in this season. He has also won three of the last five meets which he has participated, including the 1998 SEC Championship, 1998 NCAA South Central Regional and the 1999 Hurricane Classic.
All-Americans Andrew Begley and Matt Kerr will also run in the invitational. Begley has a third-place finish at the 1999 Cowboy Jamboree held in Stillwater, Okla. earlier this season. While Kerr has a fourth-place finish at the 1999 Southern Stampede held in Joplin, Mo., Oct. 2.
Last season, the Hogs won the Chile Pepper with a score of 28 points over the 16-team field. This season, 17 teams have signed up for the event.
Arkansas has won the event 15 of the last 18 times.
