Arkansas Wraps Up Day Two At Southern Intercollegiate Championships
ATHENS, Ga. – Action from day two at the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Georgia, has concluded for Arkansas men’s tennis players.
In the Division I bracket, juniors Matias Gonzalez and Oscar Mesquida both dropped in straight sets to their competition. Mesquida fell to Georgia’s Wayne Montgomery 6-1, 6-1, while Robert Loeb of Georgia defeated Gonzalez 6-3, 6-4. In the consolation bracket, Josh Josh Howard-Tripp knocked off Sergi Fontcuberta (ETSU) 7-6, 6-4, to advance and face Rodrigo Magalhaes of Radford on Sunday.
After winning his first collegiate match Friday, freshman Jose Alonzo defeated Louisville’s George Hedley 6-2, 6-4 in the Division II bracket. Branch Terrell fell to David Gonzalez (ETSU) 6-2, 6-4. In the consolation bracket, Alex Reco won 6-1, 7-5 over Antoine Sanchez (Stetson).
In the Division III consolation bracket, Josh Bortnick lost to Andrei Duarte (GSU) 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, Arkansas dropped both matches as Andrei Andrukhou and Quentin Coulaud (Georgia State) defeated Oscar Mesquida and Matias Gonzalez 8-4, while Alex Reco/Jose Alonzo fell to Lander’s Philippe Courteau and Ozan Cildir 8-6.
