Arkansas adds four to signing class

FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas baseball team announced the addition of four more signees as the early signing period came to a close. With the four most recent signees, the Razorbacks have signed 10 in the early signing period.

Included in the most recent signees are right-handed pitcher Jarred Greene of Magnolia, Texas, outfielder Shilo McCall of Farmington, N.M., outfielder D’Vone McClure of Jacksonville, Ark., and third baseman/right-handed pitcher Willie Schwanke of Frisco, Texas.

Greene currently attends Magnolia High School and is ranked as the No. 327 prospect nationally in the class of 2012 by Perfect Game. Greene has earned All-District honors twice, receiving first-team honors after his junior year and second-team recognition after his sophomore season. Greene has also twice been named a Perfect Game Preseason High School Underclassman All-American, picking up second-team honors in 2010 and third-team honors in 2011.

"Jarred is a big, strong right hander that has a big upside," Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. "He’s got a 90 mile-per-hour fastball with a lot of sink and a lot of life. If he’s healthy and gets back to form after overcoming a few injuries, we feel like he can come in and contribute right away."

McCall plays his high school baseball at Piedra Vista High School. McCall is currently ranked as the No. 160 prospect nationally in the class of 2012 by Perfect Game. McCall was named a 2011 third-team Perfect Game Preseason High School Underclassman All-American. McCall was also selected to participate in the 2011 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars.

"Shilo is a player that we saw in the summer for the first time," Van Horn said. "He’s a tremendous athlete. He can really run, throws well and is a tremendous hitter. He played for the Farmington team in the Connie Mack World Series and got a lot of exposure there. We feel fortunate to get him. He has a chance to come in and play as a freshman."

McClure attends Jacksonville High School, where he also plays football for the Red Devils. McClure is currently ranked as the 56th-best prospect nationally in the class of 2012 by Baseball America and the No. 95 prospect nationally in the class of 2012 by Perfect Game. McClure has twice been named to the All-Arkansas Baseball Team by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He also earned All-State honors in football following the 2010 season.

"D’Vone is a very athletic outfielder," Van Horn said. "He’s drawn a lot of attention the past couple of summers with his play. There’s a lot of pro interest in D’Vone, but we hope we can get him to campus."

Schwanke currently attends Wakeland High School. Schwanke has twice earned All-State honors, including receiving first-team All-State recognition following his junior season when he went 14-1 on the mound with a 1.54 ERA. At the plate, Schwanke hit .477 with 10 homers and 48 RBI in his junior year. He was the 9-4A District MVP in 2011 and also earned All-District honors in 2009 and 2010. Schwanke also participated in the 2011 Area Code Games, playing for the Texas Rangers.

"In my opinion, I think Willie is one of the top left-handed hitters in Texas," Van Horn said. "He’s an outstanding defender with a plus arm. He also pitches and could get into the closer role for us. He has a 91, 92 mile-per-hour fastball. He can play both third and first base. I see him in the lineup as a freshman if he continues to do what I’ve seen him do with the bat."
