Noting the Razorbacks

No. 8 Arkansas dropped two-of-three games this week at Alabama as the Crimson Tide came out on top in a back-and-forth rubber game on Sunday … the Razorbacks are 37-16 on the season and 17-10 in SEC play … the Hogs are two games back of Vanderbilt for the overall SEC title and two games ahead of Mississippi State for the SEC West title and three games up on Ole Miss … the Tide opened with a 10-0 win on Friday night as Tommy Hunter shut down the Hogs’ offense … Jess Todd and the Razorbacks’ battled back on Saturday with a 12-5 romp … Todd won his fourth straight start and improved to 8-2 on the season and 7-1 in SEC play … he lowered his ERA to 2.95 overall and 2.72 in league play … Danny Hamblin connected for his fifth multiple-home run game of the season vs. Alabama on Saturday and the Hogs tied their season high with four home runs as a team with Casey Coon and Sean Jones also homering … the series finale went the way of the Crimson Tide, 9-5, as the Arkansas bullpen allowed four runs in three innings of work … Coon cracked his second home run of the weekend to give him nine on the year … he drove in six runs in the series and has 66 on the season to rank second … Hamblin has 54 RBI on the year to rank second on the team and tied for ninth in the league … Hamblin also took over the overall SEC home run lead with his tape-measure home run to left field in the second inning on Sunday … his 20th home run of the season moved him one ahead of Florida’s Matt LaPorta and gave him a league-best 14 during conference play … the 14 home runs in league play is tied for the most in school history … Ryan Lundquist also hit 14 in 1997 … Hamblin’s 20 home runs are tied for the second-most in a single season in school history with Rodney Nye’s 20 in 1999 … Lundquist hit 24 in 1997 … Hamblin is also closing in on Lundquist’s career record for home run, Lundquist hit 56 from 1996-99 and Hamblin currently has 55 during his four-year career … freshman Tim Smalling had a big weekend at shortstop … the Raleigh, N.C., native hit .714 with two doubles and two RBI, while posting a .738 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging mark … Smalling also matched his career high in hits with four on May 12 … Senior outfielder Stephen Robison made his first two starts in SEC play on Saturday and Sunday … his over-the-shoulder catch on a dead run at the warning track in center field on Sunday was a highlight reel catch … on the career record watch Hamblin became the first player in school history with 900 at bats and currently has 902 … second in home runs (55) … he is third in hits (275), fourth in runs scored (196), second in RBI (213), second in total bases (505), third in sacrifice flies (16), third in games played (235), sixth in walks (115) and second extra-base hits (117) … Dugger is Arkansas’ career leader in walks (158), tied for fifth in games (228), fourth in at bats (823), tied for seventh in home runs (33), 10th in runs (176), ninth in RBI (154), ninth in total bases (381), ninth in hits (234) and eighth in hit by pitches (26) … Schmidt is second in career starts (49), tied for third in career wins (26) with Dennis Fletcher, third in innings pitched (317.0) and 10th in ERA (2.92).

· Smalling hit .714 in two starts at shortstop at Alabama with five hits in seven at bats

· He had two doubles and two RBI against the Crimson Tide to go along with two walks and a hit by pitch

· Smalling recorded a .738 on-base percentage with three runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage

· He matched his career high with four hits on Saturday, including two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.

· Smalling then went 1 for 2 on Sunday, drawing two walks and scoring two runs.

Next Week

The Razorbacks return home for the final regular-season series of 2007 as the Ole Miss Rebels come to town. Things get underway on Thursday, May 17, at 7:05 p.m. from Baum Stadium. The annual fireworks show will follow Friday night’s game, which gets started at 7:05 p.m. as well. The regular-season finale is slated for 2:05 p.m. Saturday.
