Razorbacks’ junior left fielder Jake Dugger reminded everyone why he earned freshman All-America honors following the 2004 season … the Omaha, Neb., native hit .538 in three games at the Jaguar Invitational to jump start his 2006 campaign … posted a 1.077 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage … hammered two home runs to propel the Hogs to a 8-7 win over host South Alabama … finish the USA game 3 for 5 with four RBI and two runs scored … his four RBI tied his career high set in 2005 … it was the second time in his career he has homered twice in a game (April 17, 2004 at Vanderbilt) … also threw one runner out at the plate in Sunday’s 8-7 win over South Alabama … collected three of Arkansas’ eight hits with a double in a 3-0 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday … went 1 for 3 in the opener against George Mason where the Hogs collected only five hits as a team.

Arkansas sophomore Nick Schmidt (1-0) quickly displaced any notion of a sophomore jinx in his season debut against perennial power Oklahoma State at the Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala. … the left-hander from St. Louis, Mo., worked the first six innings of the 12th no-hitter in school history … Schmidt struck out six over six innings and walked three on 87 pitches … junior RHP Brian McLelland and senior LHP Devin Collis combined with Schmidt for the no-hitter … it was the first time in 71-years of recorded baseball at Oklahoma State the Cowboys had been without a hit … the win was the ninth of his Arkansas’ career … lowered his career ERA to 2.64.

Noting the Razorbacks

No. 20 Arkansas wrapped up its first weekend of baseball with a 3-0 record after sweeping through the field at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama … UA improved 4-0 in season openers under head coach Dave Van Horn and 36-11 since 1960 … Nick Schmidt, Brian McLelland and Devin Collis combined for the 12th no-hitter in school history against Oklahoma State on Saturday … the UA pitching staff finished the first weekend of play with a 2.00 ERA and a .213 opponent batting average … the Hogs opened the season with a 4-1 win over George Mason on Friday afternoon … junior college transfer Chris Rhoads (1-0) pitched well in his first career outing for the Hogs … Rhoads, a right-hander worked six innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five … LHP Trey Holloway came on to pitch two scoreless innings of relief … it was his first action since fracturing his left-elbow on March 23 of last season at Centenary … Daryl Maday pitch a perfect ninth inning for his first career save … Blake Parker and Danny Hamblin provided the offense punch with solo home runs … Parker got things started in the second inning with a solo shot that cleared Stanky Field’s 50-foot-high scoreboard … Hamblin connected in the fifth to left-center field … Sophomore LHP Nick Schmidt (1-0), RHP Brian McLelland and LHP Devin Collis combined to no-hit Oklahoma State in a 3-0 win on Saturday in Mobile … Schmidt worked the first six innings, striking out six and walking three on 87 pitches … McLelland worked the seventh inning and Collis closed out the final two innings for his first career save … Brian Walker and Blake Parker provided the run support with singles in the Razorbacks’ three-run sixth inning … Walker broke through with a full-count, bases-loaded, two-RBI single to left field … Parker followed with a RBI single up the middle … the Razorbacks completed the tournament sweep with a 8-7 win over host South Alabama on Sunday afternoon … Jake Dugger provide the power with two home runs, while equaling his career-high with four RBI Dugger finished the game with three hits and the tournament with a .538 batting average (7 of 13) … Craig Gentry found his stroke at the plate with three hits in four at bats, including an RBI triple … Charley Boyce made his 46th career start, tying the school record held by Kevin Campbell (1986-89) and Scott Tabor (1979-82) … James Gilbert picked up the win out of the bullpen with two scoreless innings of relief … Devin Collis finished things off for the second straight day with his second career save.

Next Week

Arkansas travels to Edinburg, Texas, next weekend for a tournament at Texas-Pan American … the Razorbacks open Friday with No. 21 TCU … on Saturday, UA faces Stephen F. Austin, who is playing baseball again for the first time since 1995 … the Hogs close the tournament with host Texas-Pan American on Sunday … Arkansas will be looking for revenge after dropping to games to the Broncs in Edinburg in 2004.
