Arkansas concludes competition at Speedo Sectionals

JENKS, Okla. — Freshman Lindsey Gibson led the Razorbacks on the final day of competition at the Speedo Sectionals in Jenks, Okla. The freshman put together strong performances in the 1,650 freestyle and 200 backstroke to highlight the final day of competition. Gibson was one of two swimmers to advance to the evening finals on the last day of competition.

“It was a solid swim by Lyndsie in the 1,650 tonight after a miscue in the 200 fly in the morning,” assistant swimming coach Todd Mann said. “It took a lot for her to follow up the miscue with a strong 1,650 on the last day of competition.”

To start off the day freshman Lyndsie Gibson nabbed a third-place finish in the preliminaries of the 200 backstroke with a personal-best time of 2:02.68. Gibson opened the race with the fastest opening split (28.21) and she held on to finish with the third-fastest time in the prelims. The strong swim sent her into the ‘A’ finals where she finished eighth overall.

Junior Shelby Cox was the top finisher for the Razorbacks in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.51. Cox nabbed one of the fastest opening splits of the race (25.16) and finished 18th overall. Arkansas’ Molly Milborn (54.26), Rebekah Porter (54.27) and Sevannah Vekas (55.08) also competed in the 100 freestyle, placing 33rd, 34th and 63rd respectively.

Milborn and freshman Jordan Kimmey represented Arkansas in the 200 butterfly. Milborn was the top-finisher for Arkansas with a time of 2:09.04 for 16th overall, while Kimmey clocked a 2:10.35 to finish 21st. Milborn’s swim was enough to earn her a spot in the ‘B’ finals where she nabbed a final time of 2:09.12.

The Razorback divers will kick off competition at the NCAA Zone Diving beginning tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Houston, Texas. Monday will be the first of the three-day competition to determine spots for the NCAA Championships.
