FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas softball team opened its weekend with a 5-4 win over Drake improving its overall record to 12-2.Drake took the early lead when a runner was brought in after she was walked and stole a base.The Razorbacks did not let the one run phase them, they went to work in the third inning when freshman, Devon Wallace doubled and was eventually brought in with a double from sophomore, Amanda Geile tying the game at one.The Razorbacks struck again in the fifth inning with the help from an array of errors and walks from the Bulldogs. Wallace got on base with a walk, followed by a single from sophomore, Clarisa Navarro. Freshman, Sierra Bronkey was walked, loading the bases. An error by the Bulldogs allowed for Geile to reach base and bring in one run. Another walk was given when sophomore, Jennifer Rambo took the plate, bringing in another run. Sophomore Chloe Oprzedek hit a line drive to third, forcing yet another error for Drake. The fifth inning ended with the Razorbacks scoring four runs and taking a 5-1 lead.The Bulldogs responded in the top of the sixth with a homerun from their centerfielder, which brought home three runs making the score 5-4.The game would end in the top of the seventh with three quick outs from junior, Chelsea Cohen. Cohen recorded her seventh win of the season, pitching all seven innings while recording five strikeouts."It was a great win for us tonight," said Head Coach Mike Larabee. "I was very pleased with the way we played defense."Arkansas takes the field tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they take on Butler in its opening game of the Woo Pig Classic. The Razorbacks will follow that game with another matchup with Drake at 5:30 p.m. "Butler has an outstanding pitcher," said Larabee.
