FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Fresh off a 3-0 victory over Western Michigan on Friday at Razorback Field, the Arkansas soccer team returns to action Sunday to take on Nicholls St. in its final non-conference game of the season. The Razorback Invitational finale between the Razorbacks and Colonels is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.
In their last outing, the Razorbacks (6-1) were powered by standout performances by Lindsay Patterson and Britni Williams. In just her second game of the season, Patterson tallied a career-high five points on two goals and an assist to lead the Razorback offense. In goal, Williams stopped nine Western Michigan shots to post her fifth shutout of the year.
Arkansas also got a goal from sophomore Kelly O’Connor. The goal is her fifth of the season and extends her scoring streak to five games. Freshman Kailey Anders also turned in a career effort with two assists—both on Patterson’s goals—and she now leads the team with three assists.
Nicholls St. (2-4) allowed seven goals in its first game of the Razorback Invitational in a 7-0 loss to Missouri State. This will be the first meeting between Arkansas and Nicholls St, but share Missouri St. as a common 2008 opponent. In their season opener, the Razorbacks beat Missouri St., 1-0.
In cooperation with the celebration of Youth Soccer Month in September (youthsoccermonth.org), the U.S. Youth Soccer organization will sponsor’s Sunday game which is being promoted as Youth Soccer Month Day and fans can enjoy a reduced admission into Razorback Field of $1 and other contests and prizes.
