HOUSTON, Texas — The No. 49 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team concluded their regular season with a victory Sunday, winning at the University of Houston. The Razorbacks beat the Cougars 4-2 at the John E. Hoff Courts, and finished the regular season at 13-14, and 4-9 in SEC play. The teams opened the day with singles play, and Arkansas won four of the six singles matches to clinch the victory. The Razorbacks got wins from four freshmen to conclude the season with a final victory. Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez and Kimberley — Ann Surin got the Razorbacks off to a quick start, winning the first two matches of the day to put Arkansas up 2-0. Belmar Hernandez beat Jo Garvey 6-0, 6-2, and Surin won 6-2, 6-1 over Dionne Sanders. Segou Jonker, playing at the No. 1 position, fell to Elena Kordolaimi 6-2, 6-1. Flavia Araujo earned another victory for the squad, winning 6-3, 6-2 over Gabriella Jansson. Sarah McLean dropped her match; falling at No. 2 singles to Houston’s Maja Kazimieruk 6-2, 6-3. In the final singles match of the day, Brittany Huxley won in a second set tie break, defeating Charlotte Phillips 6-2, 7-5. The victory by Huxley clinched the match for Arkansas, and doubles was not contested. Arkansas has concluded the regular season, and will next play at the SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament, which will be held at Mississippi State on April 17-21. The Razorbacks will be the 10th seed in the tournament, and will face No. 7 seed Auburn on Thursday at 2 p.m. The winner of that match will play No. 2 seed Texas A&M on Friday.
