Arkansas Golf Fact Sheet #3

This WeekArkansas returns to the links this week traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Who’s traveling?First-year head coach Shauna Estes and her new assistant Mike Adams have decided on the lineup for this week. Senior Stacy Lewis is joined by junior Lucy Nunn, sophomores Kristin Ingram and Alex Schulte and freshman Kelli Shean.
Make this and go a lotThe final three dates of the fall schedule are in quick succession and it is unlikely that the Lady Razorbacks will re-qualify between each of the these events. If you made the cut for the Mercedes, you probably get to go on the rest of the fall trips and that was the case for four Lady’Backs. Stacy Lewis, Lucy Nunn, Kelli Shean and Kristin Ingram traveled to Tennessee and are also making the trip to California. Head coach Shauna Estes made one lineup change inserting sophomore Alex Schulte for the Stanford trip.
About the Stanford This year’s event takes place Friday-Sunday, Oct. 19-21, at the Stanford University Course in Palo Alto, Calif. It’s a big field with 18 teams scheduled to compete.
Have we met?Arkansas faces former head coach Kelley Hester for the first time this year as Hester’s Georgia Bulldogs will also take part at the Stanford event.
Lots of new facesArkansas faces a pair of SEC opponents in Georgia and Vanderbilt at Stanford this weekend. The majority of the rest of the field is from the Western Division, giving Arkansas a look at some new competition.
This year’s fieldThis year’s field at the Stanford Intercollegiate features: Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, California, duke, Georgia, New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Stanford, Texas, UCLA, UNLV, Vanderbilt, Washington, and Washington State
Who is the team to beat? There are several. Most of the collegiate golf rankings are based on pure numbers but there are some discrepancies in the three polls. UCLA is the highest ranked team checking in at No. 2 in the Golf World poll, No. 1 in the Golfweek poll and No. 1 in the Golfstat poll. Here’s a look at teams in the poll this week:

Arkansas at the StanfordThis is Arkansas’ first appearance at the Stanford Intercollegiate – sort of. Arkansas went to Stanford last year but the event was called the Peg Barnard Invitational. Arkansas finished 10th of 18 teams with an 886 for the weekend. This year, the Peg moves to the spring and this event is called the Stanford Intercollegiate.
A Coaching ChangeThe subtle coaching change puts former Arkansas assistant coach Shauna Estes at the reigns of the 2007-08 team. Former head coach Kelley Hester returned to her alma mater in the late summer.A smooth transition followed as Estes was already an integral part of the day-to-day operations of the Lady’Back team.Named the national assistant coach of the year in May, Estes becomes the fourth head coach in the history of the Lady’Back program.Estes added an assistant as well, welcoming Mike Adams to the fold this year.
