FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas head golf coach Brad McMakin announced the release of the Razorbacks’ 2006-07 men’s golf schedule on Thursday.
McMakin, in his first year with the Hogs, constructed a 10-tournament slate designed to prepare the Razorbacks for a postseason run. Arkansas will play in five events this fall and five spring events leading into the SEC Championships.
“I think we were able to put together a schedule with a good mix of competition,” McMakin said. “I want to see our guys enjoy some early success and build some confidence as the level of competition increases. In the end, I think this schedule provides us with a chance to be playing our best golf heading into the SEC and NCAA Championships.”
The season opens on Sept. 14-15 with a trip to the Del Walker Intercollegiate at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif. The Hogs follow that with a return trip to the Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 2-3. UA turned in their top tournament of last season in Reno with a third-place finish.
Arkansas next visits the Kentucky/Indiana Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Country Club in Zionsville, Ind., on Oct. 7-8. UA continues its busy October schedule with its third tournament in as many weeks at the University of Oklahoma Intercollegiate on Oct. 15-17 at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.
The fall winds down with the CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif., on Nov. 6-7. The tournament is hosted by UCLA and played at the CordeValle Country Club. The Razorbacks shot a 5-under-par 859 to finish in a tie for third place last season.
Arkansas once again begins the spring schedule with its 24th straight trip to Hawai’i on Feb. 21-23 at the Leilehua Golf Course. The Razorbacks will be making their first appearance in the John A. Burns Invitational since the 1990 season. UA then ventures to Southern California for the USD Collegiate Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in San Diego, Calif., on March 5-6.
The Razorbacks will face a slew of regional competition at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, on March 16-17. Next up for the Hogs is a trip to Awendaw, S.C., and the Hootie at Bulls Bay on March 25-27.
The regular-season schedule wraps with the U.S. Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif., on April 14-15.
The SEC Championships are slated for April 20-22 at Sea Island’s Seaside Course in St. Simon Island, Ga. UA will be looking to improve on a seventh-place finish in 2006.
NCAA Regionals are slated for May 17-19 with the NCAA Central Regional set to be played at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The NCAA Championships will be held at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., beginning on May 30-June 2.
