Arkansas Golf Ties for Second at Gopher Invitational

WAYZATA, Minn. – The Razorback men’s golf team placed three players in the top 15 and claimed a share of second place at the Gopher Invitational held at the Spring Hill Golf Club. Arkansas shot a final round eight-over-par 297 after beginning the day in sixth on the team leaderboard. It is the Razorbacks’ highest team finish since a second-place result at last season’s Lochinvar Challenge.

Junior Andrew Landry finished the tournament tied for ninth place, and first among UA golfers. It was his tenth top-10 finish out of 15 events played during his career at Arkansas. Landry faltered Sunday with a final-round 78, but still finished the tournament with a four-over-par 220.

The round of the day was turned in by senior Barrett Lais who was the only golfer in the tournament to shoot a sub-70 score Sunday. Lais carded a four-under-par 68 on the day to finish one shot behind teammate Landry at five over par (221) and earned a tied-for-11th finish. He started the day tied for 38th.

Rounding out Arkansas’ top three was sophomore transfer David Lingmerth. In his first tournament as a Razorback, Lingmerth fired an even-par 72 during the final round and joined Lais in a tie for 11th place.

Jason Cuthbertson and Austin Berkovsky struggled during the final round and carded scores of 79 and 81, respectively. Cuthbertson ended the tournament with a 14-over-par 230 and Berkovsky finished his first collegiate event 19-over-par 235.

Senior Allen McFerran competed as an individual during the weekend and turned in a nine-over-par 225. The score was good enough for a share of 21st place.

Arkansas shared second place with the team from Wisconsin. The tournament was won by Lamar University with a four-over-par team score. Casey Clendenon of Lamar and Wisconsin’s Danny Zimmerman tied for first place on the individual leaderboard with a one-under-par 215.

The Razorbacks will travel to Zionsville, Ind., Sept. 22-23 for their next tournament of the season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. For more news about Arkansas golf, log on to www.hogwired.com.
