Arkansas heads to pre-qualifyer at the Riviera

FAYETTEVILLE – Three of Arkansas’ singles players and one doubles pair looks to qualify for the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Saturday and Sunday in Los Angeles.

Junior Aurelija Miseviciute, ranked No. 119 overall, leads the trio of Lady’Backs hoping to advance and play in the Riviera next week. Miseviciute is set to open play against the No. 93 women’s player in the nation, Dunja Antunovic of DePaul.

Lady Razorback head coach Michael Hegarty looks forward to seeing his team compete against a high level of talent this weekend.

“We’re really focused on heading to the pre qualifying rounds to not only make improvement but to work hard and hopefully continue our success this fall,” said Hegarty. “This weekend is definitely going to offer some very tough competition.”

Junior Nanar Airapetian, who is already in the tournament’s main draw doubles with senior Maryori Franco, vies for her own spot in singles taking on Andrea Remynse, a freshman from UCLA. Rounding out the field of Lady’Backs competing in singles is freshman Delia Demaschin, facing off against Alexis Dorr of Iowa.

Doubles play features the pair of junior Ela Kaluder, who has already qualified for singles play, and Miseviciute, who are No. 57 ranked. Kaluder and Miseviciute open with Vanessa Frankowski and Sandra Wikstrom of Eastern Michigan.

In singles and doubles play, players must win three matches in order to qualify for the main draw of the Riviera which take place on October 3-7.

Doubles play begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. followed by singles at 10:15 a.m. and noon.
