Arkansas heavy favorite to win SEC Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas men’s cross country team was a majority pick to win the 2013 SEC Cross Country Championships, in a vote of the league’s head coaches. “I appreciate the vote of confidence from the league coaches, but there is a long way to go until the championships in November,” head coach Chris Bucknam said. “We are going to approach this season like every other in that nothing is given and we know we have a lot of work to do. There are also a lot of factors that go into winning a SEC Championship.” Arkansas is the three-time defending conference champion, having most recently won the program’s 20th SEC cross country title in 2012. The Razorbacks have won seven consecutive conference titles dating back to the 2011 outdoor track and field title. The Razorbacks return 2012 All-American Kemoy Campbell for his senior season as well as SEC Freshman Runner of the Year Cale Wallace. Senior Solomon Haile also brings three years of cross country experience and awards including 2012 All-Region and First-Team All-SEC honors. Senior David Flynn also earned 2012 All-Region honors. Points for the men’s poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 basis with head coaches not allowed to vote for their own team. The 2013 SEC Cross Country Championships are slated to take place Friday, Nov. 1 at Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
