Arkansas hosts twilight meet

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Lady Razorback track team gets one final tune up before the Southeastern Conference track championships this weekend when it hosts the Arkansas Twilight meet at John McDonnell Field on Friday.

Field events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. and run throughout the day with running events starting at 7:00 p.m. Arkansas’s participation at the event will be limited as the Lady Razorback coaches rest some of their key athletes for the conference championship, but 17 Lady Razorbacks are scheduled to compete at the one-day affair.

“This is it,” Arkansas head coach Lance Harter said. “This is our last event of the year before we go to into the championship season. We have already earned most of the NCAA qualifiers that we expected and this weekend is all about getting ready for next week. Our goal this weekend is to stay sharp and prepare for the next month of competition.”

The Lady Razorbacks plan to load the pole vault and 100-meter hurdle competitions. Four vaulters are scheduled to compete including all-Americans Jodi Unger and Stephanie Irwin and Penn Relays Champion Katie Stripling. The hurdles showcase four NCAA regional qualifiers in Makeatha Cooper, Tiavannia Thompson, Etienne Chaplin and Megan Thompson.

Other events in which Arkansas is expected to run are the 200 and 400 meters, high jump, triple jump, shot put and javelin. Lady Razorback athletes are qualified for regionals in each of the events, but hope to improve their marks prior to the SEC meet so as to earn a better lane at the conference championships.
