Arkansas picked fourth in SEC West

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team was selected to finish fourth in the Southeastern Conference Western Division in a vote by the league’s coaches. Arkansas received 37 points trailing LSU with 14 points, Alabama with 15 points and Auburn with 30 points. Tennessee was unanimously voted as the overall champion with 10 votes while Florida received one vote. “I’m pleased that my peers are anticipating the same progress that my staff and I believe we are making,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “This is the highest we’ve been picked since our arrival here and hopefully the bar has been set to continue improving from the success we have seen in previous years.” Points for the poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6 basis for the Western Division. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team, with 10 votes counting as a unanimous vote. The Lady Razorbacks finished the 2006 season seventh overall in the SEC with a 10-19 record. Arkansas officially opens the 2007 season traveling to Tampa, Fla. for the University of South Florida-Best Western Softball Tournament Feb. 9-11.
