Lady’Backs host Arkansas Fall FestivalArkansas opens the 2007 fall season Saturday at Lady’Back Yard. The Lady Razorbacks welcome Carl Albert, Connors and Evangel for the one-day tournament.
Season recapArkansas returns 17 players from the 2007 squad that finished 21-43 and 6-22 in the Southeastern Conference. Seniors Samantha Buckner, Katy Henry and Dayna Huckabee lead the team that welcomes nine newcomers.
Leading the waySophomore Jessica Bachkora is one of the Lady’Backs’ returning offensive threats. Bachkora led the Lady’Backs offensively the entire 2007 season and finished the year with a team-high .291 batting average, 30 runs, 58 hits, 10 doubles, five triples, and a .338 on-base percentage.
Fanning the opponentKaty Henry fanned 224 batters last year, putting her second for most strikeouts in an individual season. Henry now holds the second and third spots (219) for most strikeouts in a season.
On the moundSeveral newcomers join Henry and sophomores Miranda Dixon and Teighynne Hulsey in the circle this season. Kim Jones, Layne McGuirt and Lauren Chisom compete for playing time on the mound.
More to comeThe Lady’Backs host three more tournaments this fall. Sept. 23, Arkansas hosts Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Texarkansas and Tulsa in the Lady’Back Fall Festival. Sept. 30 the Lady’Backs welcome Crowder, Northeastern State and Seminole for the Arkansas Fall Invitational. Oct. 6 Arkansas concludes its fall schedule withteh Lady’Back Fall Invitational. Missouri State, Oklahoma State and Rogers State come to Fayetteville.
2007 RECORDS…
Huckabee Sets Career Home Run RecordJunior Dayna Huckabee set the career home run record blasting the 13th homer of her career last season. The previous record was 12 held by Jen Cirigliano from 1997-2000.
Single-Season Home Run RecordThe 2007 Arkansas softball team set the single-season home run record smashing 28 home runs last season. The previous record was 19 set in 2005.
Dixon Ties Single-Season Home Run RecordSophomore Miranda Dixon hit seven home runs last season and tied the single-season record at Arkansas. The record was held by Courtney Mitchell in 2002.
Single-game Home Run RecordThe Lady’Backs hit three home runs, a team single-game record, in three contests last season: March 4 against Louisiana-Monroe, March 18 against Nebraska and April 18 against Louisiana Tech. Versus the Lady Techsters Arkansas hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning.
Dixon Homers Twice at Lady’Back YardDixon marked a new Lady’Back Yard record, hitting two home runs in a game on March 4. Dixon went 7-for-7 with three home runs, seven RBIs and four runs on the day.
Bachkora Breaks Season Triple RecordSophomore Jessica Bachkora broke the school record for most triples in a single season. Bachkora hit five triples. The previous record was four, held most recently by Danica White in 2002.
Bachkora Breaks Single-game Triple RecordBachkora broke the school record for most triples in a single game on Feb. 25 against Missouri. Bachkora hit two triples, breaking the previous record of one.
Record-Breaking Game OneIn the first game of the series against Kentucky, Arkansas tied the single game records for most runs scored (14) and most hits (19), and broke the record for most runs batted in (14). The previous record of 19 hits was in a 19-inning game against Alabama in 1999, while the 2007 Lady’Backs tallied their 19 hits in just seven innings.
Another Single Game RecordSophomore Whitney Cloer broke the single game record for most hits in a game with five. Cloer was 5-for-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored, two doubles and one home run March 31 against Kentucky.
