Arkansas softball hosts Lady’Back Fall FestivalArkansas continues the 2007 fall season Sunday at Lady’Back Yard. The Lady Razorbacks welcome Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Texarkana and Tulsa for the one-day tournament.
Lady’Backs go 3-0 in fall openerThe Lady’Backs defeated Connors, Evangel and Carl Albert in their opening tournament Saturday, Sept. 15. Two of the three games ended with the run rule in the fifth inning.
What an offense!Arkansas hit .424 in the Arkansas Fall Festival with eleven players hitting .500 or above in their first weekend of play.
Lady’Backs’ top offensive threatsLeading the Lady’Backs offensively was sophomore Sandra Smith and freshman Leslie Dixon. Smith was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, one run scored and five RBIs. Dixon hit .750 with three runs and three RBIs. Senior Samantha Buckner also went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Sophomore Jessica Bachkora added five hits, four runs and three RBIs from the lead-off spot.
Extra basesSix extra-base hits were recorded Saturday – four doubles, a triple and a home run. Freshman Lauren Chisom, sophomores Teighynne Hulsey and Jessica Waddle, and Smith hit doubles. Senior Dayna Huckabee hit the lone triple of the tournament and Smith had Arkansas’ only home run.
Henry dominates on the moundSenior Katy Henry struck out as many as eight in a row en route to an 11-strikeout performance in just four innings against Evangel. Henry allowed no walks and just one hit.
Five in the circleFive pitchers threw from the circle Saturday combining for 26 strikeouts in 17 innings. Henry, Miranda Dixon, Hulsey, Kim Jones and Layne McGuirt held their opponents to a .169 batting average and allowed only three runs and three walks.
Runs galoreArkansas scored 26 runs this past weekend, averaging 8.7 runs per game. The Lady’Backs also added 23 RBIs and 25 hits.
More to comeThe Lady’Backs host two more tournaments this fall. Sept. 30, the Lady’Backs welcome Crowder, Northeastern State and Seminole for the Arkansas Fall Invitational. Oct. 6, Arkansas concludes its fall schedule with the Lady’Back Fall Invitational. Missouri State, Oklahoma State and Rogers State come to Fayetteville.
