Lady’Back Fall FestivalArkansas hosts the Lady’Back Fall Festival Saturday at Lady’Back Yard. The Lady Razorbacks welcome Connors State College, Neosho County Community College and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
Last SundayThe Lady Razorbacks had a solid start to the 2006 fall season winning the Arkansas Fall Festival. The Lady’Backs defeated Crowder College, Seminole State College and Bacone College for a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament.
Straight from FayettevilleFreshman outfielder/catcher Jess Reed led the Lady Razorback offense with an .833 batting average. She was 5-for-6 with a double, a triple, two RBI and three runs scored.
Extra basesSophomores Sandra Smith and Whitney Cloer, and freshmen Jess Reed, Teighynne Hulsey and Jessica Waddle each doubled on the day. Reed laced the Lady’Backs first and only triple of the fall season against Crowder.
Freshmen, freshmen and more freshmenFreshmen Teighynne Hulsey and Brittany Robison had four RBIs apiece on Sunday. Both players were 3-for-8 with a .375 batting average.
Throwing fireAs a pitching staff, the Lady’Back hurlers combined for 22 strikeouts and only 4 walks, earned a 0.00 ERA and held their opponents to a .121 batting average. Leading the crew with eight strikeouts in five innings was freshman Miranda Dixon.
OffenseThe Lady Razorbacks put up 19 runs from 11 different players. The Arkansas offense finished the festival with a .372 team batting average. Eight Lady’Backs recorded batting averages over .300.
.500 clubMiranda Dixon (.571), Sandra Smith (.500) and Dara Clark (.500) batted .500 or better. Dixon was 4-for-7 scoring two runs, Smith went 4-for-8 and scored three runs while Clark was 2-for-4.
Three’s companySophomore second baseman Brandy Baze started all three games collecting three hits and three runs in Arkansas’ 3-0 start.
Double figuresThe Lady’Backs tallied 11 hits against Crowder and 12 hits against Bacone.
Henry the EighthKaty Henry pitched a shutout against Seminole who scored a combined 14 runs in its other two games. She fanned eight batters in the win. In the 2006 season Henry tallied 219 strikeouts in 218.1 innings pitched, putting her second on the list for strikeouts in an individual season.
AugustArkansas held its first fall practice Aug. 26 and had just two weeks of practice before it opened its fall season last weekend at the Arkansas Fall Festival.
SeptemberThe Lady’Backs compete three out of the five weekends in September. The fall season began Sept. 10 with the Arkansas Fall Festival. It continues this weekend with the Lady’Back Fall Festival and ends Sept. 30 as Arkansas welcomes Carl Albert State College, Oklahoma Baptist University and Rogers State University for the Arkansas Fall Invitational.
