Lady’Back softball hosts Arkansas Fall Invitational

The Lady’Backs continue the 2007 fall season Sunday at Lady’Back Yard. The Lady Razorbacks welcome Crowder, Northeastern State and Seminole for the one-day tournament.

Arkansas now 6-0

Arkansas defeated Connors, Evangel and Carl Albert in their opening tournament, and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Texarkana and Tulsa this past Sunday. The Lady’Backs ended three of the games in five innings with the run rule.

Lady’Backs’ top offensive threats

Sophomore Sandra Smith led the way for the Lady’Backs hitting .571 with four RBIs, three doubles and two runs. Senior Dayna Huckabee was 1-for-2 with a solo home run, while sophomore Jessica Bachkora added five hits, five runs and an RBI. Freshman Emily Jones went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Game-winning hit

With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth inning against Tulsa, Smith singled up the middle scoring Bachkora from second base for the the game-winning, RBI single.

Over the fence

Huckabee, Arkansas’ career home run leader, got the Lady’Backs out to a 1-0 lead against Tulsa with a solo home run. Sophomore Miranda Dixon, the single-season home run leader, went yard versus NEO.

Henry dominates on the mound

Senior Katy Henry recorded 26 K’s in the first two fall tournaments – that is two more strikeouts than the other four pitchers combined. Henry’s best performance was 11 K’s versus Evangel.

In the circle

The Arkansas pitching staff combined for a 0.93 ERA this past weekend and a 0.74 ERA overall this fall. It has also held its opponents to a .135 batting average last Sunday and a .153 batting average overall.

Batting 1.000

Emily Jones was a pinch hitter three times this fall and is a perfect 3-for-3. Every one of her hits has come on two outs. In addition, she has three RBIs and a run scored.

The .500 club

E. Jones (1.000), Smith (.583), sophomore Teighynne Hulsey (.500) and freshman Lauren Chisom (.500) all have batting averages of .500 or better.

The Lady’Backs host one more tournament this fall. Oct. 6, Arkansas concludes its fall schedule with the Lady’Back Fall Invitational. Missouri State, Oklahoma State and Rogers State come to Fayetteville.
