Lady’Back softball hosts Lady’Back Fall InvitationalArkansas wraps up the 2007 fall season Saturday at Lady’Back Yard. The Lady Razorbacks welcome Missouri State, Oklahoma State and Rogers State for the one-day tournament.
Arkansas now 8-0Arkansas defeated Connors, Evangel and Carl Albert in their opening tournament, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Texarkana and Tulsa the next weekend and NEO and Crowder this past Sunday. The Lady’Backs ended three of the games in five innings with the run rule.
Lady’Backs’ top offensive threatsJunior Hillary Freeman led Arkansas with a .400 batting average Sunday. She was key in the Lady’Backs 5-1 victory against NEO going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs.
Another game-winning hitIn addition to a game-winning hit last weekend against Tulsa, sophomore Sandra Smith laced a solo home run in the fourth inning against Crowder to lift the Lady’Backs over the Lady’Riders 1-0.
Arkansas twirlers shut down opponentsFreshman Kim Jones and senior Katy Henry combined for a shutout in a 1-0 victory against Crowder. Jones threw 6.2 innings for the win and Henry relieved her with runners in scoring position to fan the final batter and earn the save.
McGuirt gets first start and winFreshman Layne McGuirt got the nod in Arkansas’ 11 a.m. game Sunday and threw six innings allowing one run on five hits and striking out seven for the win.
Henry dominates on the moundHenry recorded 29 K’s in the first three fall tournaments. Henry’s best performance was 11 K’s versus Evangel. She also has two combined shutouts.
In the circleThe Arkansas pitching staff combined for a 0.50 ERA this past weekend and a 0.56 ERA overall this fall. It also held its opponents to a .191 batting average last Sunday and a .163 batting average overall.
Those are some awesome numbers!Smith is hitting .471 this fall. She boasts eight hits, two home runs, four doubles, 10 RBIs and five runs. Sophomore Jessica Bachkora is right behind Smith batting .444 with 12 hits, one double, four RBIs, 10 runs and six stolen bases.
