Arkansas softball hosts Auburn Tuesday

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team hosts Auburn in a Southeastern Conference doubleheader Tuesday at Lady’Back Yard. The games begin at 4 p.m. Instead of the previous three-game midweek series, each SEC team is scheduled to play two midweek doubleheaders this season, one on the road and one at home. The Lady Razorbacks faced second-ranked Alabama for two games last Wednesday and now host Auburn at home tomorrow. The Lady’Backs return to Lady’Back Yard after playing the top two teams in the nation on the road last week. Arkansas (12-28, 0-8 SEC) was swept by both No. 1 Tennessee and No. 2 Alabama and enters Tuesday’s contest hungry for its first win in SEC play. “We had a tough week last week, but we’ve got to remain focused and play good ball against Auburn,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. Auburn is 15-19 overall and 4-7 in SEC play after losing its series against Mississippi State this past weekend. The Tigers took the final game of the series from the Bulldogs, 2-1, on Sunday. Arkansas leads the all-time series 19-16, but Auburn has won 10 of its last 11 games against the Lady’Backs. The Tigers also won the 2006 SEC series at Lady’Back Yard. Auburn won the first game 5-4, while Arkansas took the second 2-0. The Tigers then won the Sunday game, 1-2, to take the series. Freshman Jessica Bachkora continues to lead the Lady’Backs with a .336 batting average. She also has team-highs 41 hits, 21 runs, seven doubles and a .372 on-base percentage. The Tigers are led by Holly Currie with a .311 batting average. Currie also leads the team with 32 hits, six home runs, 18 RBIs, a .534 slugging percentage and a .408 on-base percentage.
