Arkansas softball travels to No. 15 LSU

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas softball team travels to Baton Rouge, La., for a Southeastern Conference series with No. 15 LSU this weekend. A doubleheader on Saturday and one game on Sunday are both slated for 1 p.m. at Tiger Park. The Lady Razorbacks enter the three-game set with a 33-22 record and are in ninth place in the league with a 6-16 mark. LSU is 35-14 overall and 12-10 in the SEC. Both teams vie for a berth to the conference tournament. “We are going in trying to fight for one of the final two or three spots in the SEC Tournament,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “Anything’s possible as long as we have games remaining. We’ll just have to play hard. Our backs are against the wall and it’s time to see what the players are capable of doing. We have the talent and the offense, and the way we’ve played this year, we’re capable of doing what we need to do. We can control our own destiny.” Arkansas is 2-12 against ranked opponents this season, but the Lady’Backs lost by two runs or less in eight of those games. Four games ended one run short and two have gone into extra innings. Arkansas upset No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 8 Tennessee. The Tigers downed Louisiana-Monroe 11-0 on Wednesday before returning home to host Arkansas. LSU lost its last SEC series to Tennessee and sits in fourth place in the league. Arkansas is 7-34 against LSU all time and upset the Tigers twice in 2006 to win the series 2-1 at Lady’Back Yard. Arkansas won three of the last 10 meetings.
