Omaha, Neb. – The No. 54 University of Arkansas men’s tennis team defeated Nebraska in back-to-back matches Tuesday afternoon at the Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center, improving its overall record to 15-14.
“We went up to Omaha and got the job done,” head coach Robert Cox said. “We really needed these two victories and the guys responded well not allowing the Mavs a set.”Arkansas played a full dual match Tuesday morning capturing all available seven points. Jovan Parlic, Mike Ward, Hall Fess, Pete Thomason, Christian Lee and Austin Robles all collected two-set singles victories in the first match of the day. In doubles play the duo of Fess and Mike Nott captured a win at the one spot, while seniors Gregoire Lehmann and Ward blanked the Mavs on court two, giving Arkansas the doubles point.The second match of the day consisted of four singles matches. Nott, Parlic, Fess and Thomason all won in two sets to give Arkansas the 4-0 dual victory, not even needing to play the final two singles. Arkansas will travel to Baton Rouge, La., to finish out its regular season play this weekend. The Razorbacks will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning with No.20 LSU and closing the day with Jackson State. The Southeastern Conference Tournament will begin next Wednesday the 17th in Oxford, Miss. Currently 11 of the 13 SEC schools are ranked in the top-25 with Georgia being at the highest spot of 3.
