Arkansas to Host LSU in Battle for the Boot Moved to Traditional Friday after Thanksgiving Slot

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas will host defending national champion LSU in the “Battle for the Golden Boot” on Friday, Nov. 28, at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. For the 13th-consecutive season, the game was moved to the Friday following Thanksgiving to accommodate a national broadcast by CBS Sports.

The Tigers will visit War Memorial Stadium for the regular season finale for both squads. Arkansas upset No. 1 LSU 50-48 last season in a triple-overtime thriller in Baton Rouge. Despite the loss, LSU went on to capture the SEC Championship and the BCS National Championship. The Arkansas-LSU rivalry continues to play a major role with championship implications. In six of the past seven seasons, one of the two schools has gone on to represent the Western Division in the Southeastern Conference Football Championship Game.

The Golden Boot, a nearly 200-pound, 24-karat gold statue in the shape of the states of Arkansas and Louisiana, was introduced to the series in 1996. For the past 12 seasons, the winner of the Arkansas-LSU game has taken home the traveling trophy.

The Arkansas-LSU matchup is the first game on the Razorbacks’ 2008 schedule that has been officially slated for television. No further television arrangements involving the Razorbacks have been made at this time. Networks may wait until 12 days prior to a game to select that contest for telecast.

Arkansas has also set the Nov. 1 game against the University of Tulsa as Homecoming for the 2008 season.
