Arkansas volleyball travels to Kentucky Friday

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas volleyball team returns to the Southeastern Conference road this weekend traveling to Kentucky and Tennessee.

Arkansas enters the matches searching for the team’s first SEC win of the year with a 6-8 overall mark and an 0-4 league record. The Lady’Backs open at Kentucky Friday in a 6:00 p.m. match followed by a 12:30 p.m. contest at Tennessee Sunday.

Both matches can be heard live in Northwest Arkansas on KXUA, 88.3 FM and on the internet at LADYBACKS.COM.

"We face another tough challenge this weekend," said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "Both Kentucky and Tennessee are playing well and all of the SEC matches – home and road – are a challenge."

Arkansas has seen its share of challenges this season. The Lady’Backs battled inexperience in several positions on the court and have been battling unforced errors from the first match.

"Right now, we are trying to get focused on our side of the net," said Poole. "We are struggling with unforced errors and our passing is not been very good. We are playing close at times and we often have leads but we have to find ways to win down the stretch.

"That being said, I think the team is working really hard to get better," he continued. "I really believe in this team and they haven’t given up."

The Lady Razorbacks are still in the early stretch of the 2007 season. Arkansas follows up this weekend’s road matches with four consecutive home matches beginning with Georgia Oct. 5.

"There is a lot of season left and we’re working hard to turn a corner starting with this weekend," said Poole.
