Arkansas Women's Golf Fact Sheet #4 - Las Vegas Showdown

IN A FLASH It was over. The Razorbacks compete in the team’s final fall event this weekend traveling to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Arkansas played four fall events and breaks for the winter resuming play Feb. 22-23, at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., next spring.
SHEAN SHINES FOR RAZORBACKS Razorback senior Kelli Shean has been the team leader in the first three events. The Cape Town, South Africa native has been Arkansas’ top finisher in all three events and picked up her first collegiate win at the Marilyn Smith/Sunflower Invitational Sept. 29. She leads the team with a 72.67 stroke average this year.
MORE ABOUT THE EVENT This is Arkansas’ second appearance at the Las Vegas event. The Razorbacks also competed in Vegas Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 2005, where they were sixth of 16 teams.
2009 FIELD This year’s Las Vegas Collegiate field includes Arizona, Arkansas, BYU, UC-Davis, Colorado, Colorado State, Florida, Idaho, Kent Sate, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, TCU, Texas Tech, UNLV and Washington.
SEEMS FAMILIAR It should. Arkansas is facing seven teams in the 16-team field for the second time and one team, TCU, for the third in four events. Arkansas sees UC-Davis, Colorado, Colorado State, UNLV, Northwestern, Florida and Kent State all for the second time this season.
THE COURSE UNLV has privileges at several area golf courses in the Las Vegas area. This year’s Showdown takes place at Boulder Creek Golf Club, a par 72, 6,234-yard course just outside of Las Vegas in Boulder City.
ARKANSAS’ LINE-UP The Razorbacks have not yet determined the lineup for the Las Vegas event. It will likely include Kelli Shean, Kristin Ingram and Alex Schulte who have been among the top finishers in the first events.
ABOUT SHAUNA ESTES-TAYLOR Head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor is in her third year with the Razorbacks as the skipper of the squad. After five successful seasons as the Razorback assistant, Estes-Taylor had helped Arkansas to six consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and four NCAA Championship appearances. Assistant coach Mike Adams is also back for his third season with the Razorbacks.
