FAYETTEVILLE – Senior safety Seth Armbrust and senior defensive end Jake Bequette have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI first team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Since both players were named first team academic all-district, they advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-American honorees will be selected later this month.
A native of Little Rock, Ark., Armbrust finished his undergraduate career with a 3.55 GPA and a degree in kinesiology. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in sports management and has a 3.60 GPA. Armbrust has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll twice and has earned a spot on the Athletic Director’s List (GPA between 3.5-3.99) three times in his academic career. During the 2011 season, Armbrust has played in all nine games and has recorded two tackles while also contributing on special teams.
Also hailing from Little Rock, Bequette graduate in three years with a 3.52 GPA and a degree in finance. A two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, Bequette is also currently pursuing a graduate degree in sports management and has a 3.33 GPA. Bequette has started all six games he has played in and leads the team with five sacks. He was recently named SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week after recording three sacks and a forced fumble in Arkansas’ win over No. 10 South Carolina. Bequette is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award and was named to the watch lists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, the Bednarik Award, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Rotary Lombardi Award and the Ted Hendricks Award prior to the 2011 season.
Arkansas returns to action Saturday against Tennessee inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Kickoff for the game, which has already sold out, is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN2. Arkansas will recognize its 17 seniors playing their final on-campus game in a pre-game ceremony.
