FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas junior pitcher Barrett Astin has been named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing eight shutout innings in Arkansas’ Friday night win at Georgia last weekend.Astin is the fifth Razorback player to win a weekly award from the league office this season. Ryne Stanek was also named pitcher of the week earlier in the season, while Trey Killian,Colin Poché and Tyler Spoon have each earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season.A native of Forrest City, Ark., Astin was dominant in his start on Friday night at Georgia. The junior right hander worked a career-long eight shutout innings and struck out a season-high eight batters to lead the Razorbacks to a 2-0 win in the series opener. Astin allowed just four hits over the eight innings. After Georgia loaded the bases in the first inning, Astin did not allow a Bulldog base runner to advance past first base for the rest of his outing. He gave up hits to the first two batters he faced in the contest, but then proceeded to retire 24 of the next 28 batters that came to the plate. For the season, Astin has pitched in 13 games, including nine starts, and has a 3-2 record with one save and a 2.02 ERA, which ranks seventh in the conference. Astin and the rest of the 14th-ranked Razorbacks return to the field on Tuesday, hosting Missouri State.
