BA Taken by Jacksonville Jaguars in Sixth Round

CHICAGO – Arkansas’ career leader with 64 touchdown passes, quarterback Brandon Allen became the fifth Razorback selected in the 2016 NFL Draft when he was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round with the 201st overall pick Saturday afternoon.

Allen became the fourth Razorback taken on Saturday over a 46-pick span and is the 10th quarterback in program history to be selected in the NFL Draft. Quarterbacks who have started the last 89 games for the Razorbacks dating back to 2009 have all been selected in the NFL Draft.

It marks the second straight year Arkansas has had five players taken in the NFL Draft. Over his 10 seasons as a head coach, Bret Bielema’s career total of NFL Draft picks now stands at 39, including 28 over the last six years.

Allen finished his senior campaign with 3,440 yards passing and 30 touchdowns. Behind a program-best three 400-yard games, he became only the third player in Arkansas history to throw for 3,000 yards in a season. He completed 66 percent of his passes and led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in touchdowns passes against conference opponents (21), passer rating (166.48) and yards per attempt (9.3).

The Fayetteville, Arkansas, native was at his best down the stretch. He set a program record with six touchdown passes at Ole Miss on Nov. 7, before bettering it two weeks later with seven against Mississippi State, which was the most by a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) quarterback in a game this season and equaled an SEC record. He finished the month of November with 14 passing touchdowns, good for third-most nationally during that time and the most by an SEC quarterback in the month of November since 2012.

Allen’s 19 scoring tosses during Arkansas’ 5-1 record over the second half of the regular season helped him surpass Ryan Mallett as the school’s career leader in touchdown passes with 63. He added one more touchdown in the Razorbacks’ 45-23 victory over Kansas State in the 2016 AutoZone Liberty Bowl, finishing with 64 for his career.

Allen’s 3,440 yards passing in 2015 ranked fourth in program history for a single season, while his 30 touchdowns passing tied for second.

For his career, Allen totaled 7,463 yards passing, which ranks third in program history. He made 38 career starts at quarterback for his career, including his final 34 games – the longest streak for an Arkansas quarterback since joining the SEC in 1992. He also finished second in program history in career pass completions (583), second in attempts (1,016) and third in completion percentage (57.4).
