Bargiachi Stripling Earn Academic Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Lady Razorbacks Denise Bargiachi and Katie Stripling, members of the track and field team, were named CoSIDA Academic All-District, it was announced this week.

Both will compete at the NCAA Championships this week. Bargiachi will run the 10,000 meters and Stripling will compete in the pole vault.

Bargiachi is majoring in journalism and has a GPA of 3.68. She is the 2008 SEC Indoor Champion in the 5,000 meters. She finished third in the 10K and fourth in the 5K at the 2008 SEC Outdoor Championships. She earned All-America honors in the NCAA Indoor 5K with a 10th-place finish. Her best indoor 5K time (16:25.34) ranks 16th nationally and second in the SEC. Her outdoor 5K best (16:22.51) ranks 22nd nationally and fifth in the SEC.

Stripling won the 2008 SEC Indoor and Outdoor Championship titles in the pole vault. She set a school record in the pole vault (14-2) during the 2008 outdoor season. Her indoor best (13-8.25) ranked ninth nationally and led the SEC. Her outdoor best (14-2) ranks second nationally and leads the SEC. She holds a 3.96 GPA in kinesiology.
