BY ANDRES FOCIL
JOPLIN, Mo. – Arkansas sophomore-to-be Barrett Lais won the 57th Ozark Amateur at the Schifferdecker Municipal Golf Course with a two-round 13-under-par score of 129.
The Joplin, Mo., native fired a seven-under par 64 in the opening round to take a three-stroke lead into the final round. He followed that with a six-under par 65 in the second and final round to win the event by one stroke over University of Tulsa senior Tyler Carson.
Carson and Gary Cowan of Choteau, Okla., both started the second round three strokes off Lais’ lead. Carson’s final-round 63 was the lowest of the tournament, but it was not enough to over take Lais. Cowan fired a 66 in the final round and finished four strokes off the pace.
Lais recorded eight birdies in both rounds of the Ozark Amateur, including birdies on the first three holes of the final round.
