FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Chuck Barrett, the Voice of the Razorbacks in football and baseball, will add men’s basketball radio play-by-play to his duties beginning this season on the Razorback Sports Network by ISP it was announced by the University of Arkansas and Razorback Sports Properties on Friday.Barrett has been broadcasting Razorback Athletics since 1992, including the last 19 years as the University of Arkansas’ play-by-play radio announcer for baseball. He has also been a member of the Razorback Football Radio Sports Network broadcast team for the past 17 years. In 2007, he was named as the football play-by-play announcer after previously serving as a pre-game and post-game host on Razorback football broadcasts.Barrett will assume the basketball play-by-play role following Mike Nail’s retirement last spring after 29 seasons at the microphone. Barrett will be joined on the broadcast team by longtime color analyst Rick Schaeffer."For nearly 20 years, fans throughout Arkansas have listened to Chuck Barrett describe some of the most memorable moments in Razorback history," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "A native Arkansan, Chuck is an excellent broadcaster and has an ability to provide vivid descriptions of game action while integrating the tremendous passion our state has for the Razorbacks into each broadcast. When fans tune in and hear Chuck’s distinctive delivery, they immediately know they are following the Hogs and are undoubtedly listening to the voice of the Razorbacks. For 29 seasons, Mike Nail brought Arkansas Basketball into the homes of Razorback fans. I have no doubt Chuck will carry on that tradition of excellence in broadcasting Razorback Basketball."In addition to his football, basketball and baseball game day radio duties, Barrett will continue to host John Pelphrey Live on the Razorback Sports Network. He will also work alongside Arkansas’ head basketball coach on his television coaches’ show, Razorback Basketball with John Pelphrey."I am honored to be selected as the next basketball play-by-play broadcaster at the University of Arkansas," Barrett said. Barrett joined Razorback Athletics full time as the director of broadcasting in 2007. He hosts the television show Inside Razorback Football with Bobby Petrino and the Bobby Petrino Live radio show. He handles voice-over work for various department media projects and hosts the "Ask the A.D." segment on ArkansasRazorbacks.com. In addition, Barrett emcees various Razorback Club meetings throughout the region.
